Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM)

A free helpline and web chat service that offers guidance and support to all men feeling down or depressed for any reason.

Calls are taken by trained staff who are there to listen, support, inform without judgement. The staff can signpost to national or local agencies for extra support. Their website can also direct you to useful resources and organisations near you who can help with a range of issues, from mental health to financial stress to simply finding something to do.

In 2014, male suicide accounted for 76% of all suicides and is the single biggest cause of death in men under 45 in the UK. CALM seeks to prevent male suicide by:

  • providing support
  • pushing for changes in national policies
  • challenging a culture that prevents men finding support when they need it. yearofthemale.comCALMzine
